Layout | How Britain has changed since 1997

Very interesting look at the changes Britain made during the 13 years under New Labour. You can use the stats either for or against, but I think that they show on the whole that the UK is in a better place than they were in 1997.

The report is well laid out in a nice grid pattern with simple graphs and diagrams.

Layout | Football World Cup Tracker v3

Since I will not be able to update this over the weekend after the finish of the group stage of the World Cup, I thought I would upload my football tracker update now. Well my New Zealand has not qualified, I am still very proud of them and they finished above the current holders Italy. This World Cup is certainly looking like a South American celebration.

Layout | Gumbo recipe flowchart

Another great looking way to present a recipe, along with additional information. This flowchart gives a great method for showing different variations of the same recipe. I also like that the colour coding shows the influences from different cuisines.

Layout | Colour combining

Good article on colour combinations. The focus here is on web design, but it can be easily applied to print as well. There are six different colour combinations described:

  • Monochromatic
  • Analogous
  • Complementary
  • Split Complementary
  • Triadic
  • Tetradic

1. Monochromatic

Monochromatic Color Schemes
Using several tones of a single colour; such as light, medium and dark blue.

2. Analogous

Analogous Color Scheme
Using three consecutive colours from the colour wheel; such as blue, green, lime

3. Complemenatry

Complementary Color Schemes
Using two complementary colours, which are colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel; such as violet and orange.

4. Split Complentary

Split Complementary Color Schemes
Taking a colour, and the colours either side of the complementary colour; such as yellow with red and blue violet.

5. Triadic

Split Complementary Color Schemes
Using three colours, equally spaced across the colour wheel; such as blue, lime and red.

6. Tetradic

Split Complementary Color Schemes
Using four colours, equally spaced across the colour wheel; such as red, green, blue violet and orange.
