Layout | Vintage Movie Posters worth a bit of money

The Guardian has a collection of the 10 most expensive movie posters. Expensive not in production, but in the value of the physical poster to a collector. Most of these are great examples of vintage horror movie illustrations, but also include the beautiful Metropolis design. I love the custom type on these posters, and there are some great compositions and perspectives.

Layout | Minimalist Star Wars Posters

I love these minimalist Star Wars posters by Travis English. Check out his tumblr site for more posters such as Dr Who and Harry Potter. Just like the movies, the posters for the original trilogy are probably the best. The posters use simple silhouette illustrations of key locations and protagonists for each film. View other nice Star Wars posters here, here and here.

Layout | Bon Iver gig poster

A great Twitter inspired poster for the excellent Bon Iver. I love the custom high contrast western wood type font.

Packaging | Kleenex Desktop Tissue Student Idea

Great idea for Kleenex tissue packaging by student Chris Yoon. Chris designed three boxes that would look great on your desk, and where the tissues coming out are part of the image – house with smoke, typewriter with paper, whale with blowhole.

This is a brilliant idea, and is well executed with a simple illustrative style.

Layout | Time Person of the Year 2011 is the Protestor

Time’s person of the year is the protester, in honour of the protests in Arab uprisings, Greece, Occupy and Moscow. The cover is by Shepherd Fairey in the manner of his famous Obama Hope poster. It will be interesting to see whether this image starts to get used in the Occupy movement.
